Philip Harter
Philip Harter was born around 1828 in Ohio. He eventually moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana, and he earned a working as a clerk. He married Mary R. Cash on November 26, 1861. Although he apparently did not enlist in the Union army, he remained devoted to the Union. He prayed that God would “Restore to Our Beloved Country Liberty and Peace,” and he praised his friend Samuel Keller for “stand[ing] up in the defence of Our Country.” By 1870, he owned $4,000 of real estate and $2,000 of personal property. He died on December 25, 1897.
