Philip Harter to Melvina E. Keller, 28 March 1862
Fort Wayne Ind March 28/62
Mrs Melvina Keller
Dear Friend
Your kind Letter of the 25th inst Came to hand in due time and I was verry glad to hear from Samuel too. it certainley was a good Letter. they certainly have a hard time. I recd one from him this Evening too which I will enclose in this for you. I think mine is eaqually as good as yours and their hardships are as great as ever. their Life is a Soldiers Life which is continued toil and danger. But they will be rewarded if not in this World they will in the world to Come.
In regard to your Questions I will merely say that the Price of goods is considerable less than they were in the Winter. They sell the Best Calico for one shilling pr yard. Muslin 10 to 15ct Goods for Boys from 2 to 4 Shillings. I think if you can leave Home long enough to come over it would pay you to come and not only that but we would be verry glad to have you come and visit us then you can kill two Birs with one stone.
We are well and hope this will find all the same with you. pleas excuse me for not writing more as I have so little time to write now. We all send Love. Write again. I am as ever
P Harter
