Dear Mother
Enclosed you will find the fifty dollar bank note which I think you will be glad of yesterday we were paid for four months from the 20th of December 1861 to May 1st 1862 which brought us $56.75. I supose you will be cross with me for sending so much, but you know you have always brought me up to take care of my money and you know I am one of those kind that can take of it. where other boys are owing the sutler $16 I am not owing but 25cts. and that I put to good use. you will perceive that this money by Adams express which send the money to the friends of the soldiers at half the usual rates, which is only $1.15cts. and have it insured too. they give us a note so that if its not received by you I can claim it of them. I am in tip top health hope you and all the rest of the folks. give my love to all the folks I think I must now close
from your affectionate son
Reuben Haworth
