Dear Mother
yesterday we was paid off and I thought it my duty, to send a part of my money, home. inclosed you will find $20.00, we was paid two months pay, and you can dispose of it as you have done the rest. did you ever receive a letter with a ten dollar note in, if so let me know in your next after you receive this. little while ago I sent a package containing $27.00 which by this time you have received. when you shall have recived this it will make Just a hundred and seven dollars. I am glad I am not in the situation J Jones is in. just the minute he got his pay there was a half dozen after him to take it from him for debt that owed and there was another fellow that had every cent taken from him in the same manner but you see I had the pleasure of taking my $26.00 and putting it in my pocket knowing that I was free from debt. and anything else, if you need this money it is at your service I am well and hope this will find you the same give my love to all the neighbors to-morrow is Christmas. I hope you will all have a good time as if I am spared I shall try to have. I have written to Mrs Harris
