Dear Mother
Day before yesterday I received your kind letter dated Sept 26th on one side and the Adjts on the other. I am glad that he was so kind as to answer you inquiries that you made to his Mother. he advises you get me home, but they will not let me either on a discharge or a furlough. the head Dr. was around inspecting the men and he told me if I did not keep on nurseing he should put me in the invalid corps and the he told me that I should not have a furlough. since then the head nurse has taken me off nursing so I have nothing to do and I suppose they will remove me to the invalid corps. we have got a new Dr. in my section of the ward Named Orten he is a fine man and understands his business and when I asked him about a furlough he said he would do all he could for me. he is not like other Drs. just as quick as the word is out of your mouth they forget it. he said he would do all he could for me. so you need not be expecting me very soon, my leg is most as well as it ever was, and you would hardly notice eny lameness in my walk I am glad to see that you are all getting better and I hope this letter will find you as well as usual. how I would laugh to come and catch you and the children sawing away at the woodpile. I am sure you have been quite smart.
The expidition up through the Teche country came in contact with the enemy’s cavelry five-hundred strong with four pieces of artillery which were completely routed by our calvery without loss to our side with the exception of Major Cowin of Gen Wietzels staff and six other men wounded, that is all the news from the boys. They are sending quite a number of men from the hospital to the convalescent camp where they are kept till able for military duty. I cannot think of eny to write as there is no news so I will close wishing you well and my best respects to all enquiring friends
I remain
Your Affect. Son
