Eliza Ann, I write a fiew words to you to inform you that I have seen, horis Mcguyre & william Mcguyre to Day I was surprised to find them hear no more then tha was to see me hear tha Belong to the 18th new york Batery tha told me that james Mcguyre was captin in the secent newyork Batery and has Ben in 18 Battles horis Lettington was in the caverly some whear on the potomack tha told me that mary ett was marred and had A Baby I wount write the perticklears now I got A pass for the Day so I had A good visett with them I never was glader to see eny one than them tha was glad to see me also we had A grate visett I tell you tha told that Eliza Mcguyre was most as Big as her mother tha sed thear mother and her husband lived vary well to gether only when he had Been Drinkin and then he was jelous of her whiskey is A Bad thing and A good thing in its place tha think it would Be here to keep of the Diseases hear the Docktor thinks so to wall I dont know who I shall come A crost next mebey old thomas himself I write this to day for I dont knoe whear I shall be tomorrow for we have got marching orders to Be Ready Eny moment I think oup the River toards Red River and horis thinks so two Frank do as I wreten to you about going to school dont forgit that you will have time enough to work two years from this time Learning is the main thing then you can git through the world vary well with out it you cant so well. I will send you A paper with this letter. Did you hand the mony to galfin to pay the postage on the times if not you must for six months I have not got But three papers yet I cant tell the reason unless tha git over lookt By the port masters tha are vary carless that is the case with the letters to tha git miscared to different regiments my respeckes to all Asa Holmes
 
if I git A letter when the mail comes tonight will write more horis has jest come to my tent and I must close writing and visett with him it ma be when we part we shant see onenother again after to day
 
hear we are down in the South corner of louisania with the aligators
 
Apral 1, 1863  the 21 indiana Batery is on the cars Redey to start for some plase I dont know whear also the 75 and 160 and 23 Regements have orders to go the 114 have not got orders yet we dont know how soon we shall have. thear is A large army hear now have them in A line. thear is 100 cavearly four Batery Seven Regements make a purty large army it takes seventy horses for Eatch Batery six horses to one canon so you can judge for yourself. A
