Eliza & Frank, you wanted to know how my cough was wall it is some Better. thear is no use of writing A Bout that it Badenoughf now I was atacked with the tifhord feave puty sevear I broke it oup & its leaft me puty weak I tell you if I exercise little to mutch it makes my head feel vary Bad. the Bones in my legs thear is A dull pain mostly the time. my Bowels thear is A dull pain mostley the time, yet, not But A vary litle Blod & slime pass me now I hafter Be vary careful yet. I had not outer wrote one word to you A Bout my Being sick it onley makes you all feel Bad and what good dos it. you are thear & I am hear 3,000 miles A part and I auter ceap it to my self wall thear haint But one thing I have got to Be vary careful of my self if I dont it will Be all day with me that all one thing more my Bowels Blote vary Bad But I think that will wear of Bimby I think I have wrote A nough to give you A litle scatch of my sickness onley I was vary deaf for a Bout four weeks I have puty mutch got over that tha tell me all those that have the fever are deaf and it leaves them as tha git Beter A long wall I have Ben tring to wash my shirt to day it was so yellow I could not wash it out it tired me all out to wash it. I wash my Body all over three times a week in Salt & warter that I think helps me you have got the detales of it in full            Asa Holmes

Lieutenant Donley of company E 114 Regt died last night with the fever. warterman Ensworth hand is doing well he will have one stif finger the four finger on the write hand that will Bother him vary mutch. chaney, Bradley, he was wounded in the arm slitely, george peek in the scalp not Bad those are the three that ware wounded in company A 114 Reg wall I have comence writing about the sick I will finish it. thear is a grate meny of the 114th in the hospital in new orleans at Brashear City thear is A grate meny in the Brigade hospital and in Berwick City A crost the Bay thear is some more in that hospital and thear is A great many men in camp sick, Besides my self I have given you A little histry of the sick of the 114th Regt I call no names I dont think it is write to mention eny one name for thear is A grate meny dont want thear folkes to know it would make them feel Bad lieutenant Donley tha Buererde this afternoon with military oner that had A soger tha put in A wagon take him to the grave and dump him in and throw A litle dirt on him that is the end of him some times no coffin nothing but a Blanket A Round him. onley see the diferance Betwix A solger & officer one Baread with oner & the other like the Beast. so it goes through this life. good eaving Eliza & frank & Mary A.
