Eliza & Frank I write to you that I am well & A live at preasent if I had A good drink of cold warter I think I should feel Better the Report is this morning that the Rebels are A gonter sirrendear oup the fort for tha are starved out Banks is A gonter hold them fast jest as he has got them if tha dont surender then in three or four days then he will shell the fort on all sides for five or six ours & then make A charg. then will come the hard time for the solgears I must write one that has got wounded on the fourth day of july was george malerry / george Malerry of smithvill he was shot through the mouth Broke his ounder jaw three times in two & tore his under teath out it is A Bad wound I tell you it is to horable to write to see the wounded. I hope the Rebels will surrender within that time. it would save A grate menny lives if not & orphan childern I have no news to write for we are placed whear we cant git the news now at preaset I hope we shall Be in A fiew days whear we shall know what is going on send me the oxford times once & A while tha git the papers that are sent now I have not got Eny letter from Leonard yet / I Recvied one from john wilcox stating his Entention of going west I think he had Better set down on his Ass whear he is that what I think A Bout ett he wrote that he hope I would Become A christian & god spear my life to Return home A praing man I dont thank him for that nor no one to write to me A Bout Becoming A Christian & praing to god if it is god will for me to die or to git kild I shall Be with out writing A Bout it I am now A good christian & have always Benn I wanter heare how all the folkes git A long in oxford & other towns & how tha are doing & how the crops are thear this year are you gonter / have Eny frute thear this year & also the deaths & marages & so on & not worry A Bout my Becoming A Christian & A praing man I thank those to look to thear ourn well fair & not mine Frank Bewear of thease protended Christians as mutch as you would the Copper heads & peace Democrats I will close this
 
Eliza thear is two mounths pay Due me oup to july the first & I dont know when I shall git Eny may not Be in two months more if Eny thing hapens I want you to git it & do the Best with it for Frank Best as you can I Enlisted the & do first day of august
