Eliza & Frank I put A letter in the Box last night & one paper it was dated the 26 of August I sat in my tent wrting yeastearday arfternon when the ordears came to fix & Be in line in two minetts to go A Board of the gun Boat for Byo Beuth for the Rebles was A gonter attempt to cross thear thear was five companes went, Comp A & B & C & D & K went. I have not heard Eny thing from thear sence tha went. I did not go I have got A Bad sweling under my arm so I cant handle A gun I have not sleep six hours for six days I have got A nother on my knee so I cant hardley git Round tha are vary painful I can tell you. the Rebels are puty unezey / oup the tush I can tell you the deserters are coming into our puty fort from the Rebel army tha tell puty toughf storeys how tha fair it is puty hard wall tha outer fair hard for Being fools not so mutch so as the Ritch planters tha outer suffer death tha say hear now that we are gonter start for texes whithin six or eight days I hope not till it gits A little colder if we go to texes it will Be A grate while Befor you will hear from me Arfter I start & it will Be A long time Before I can hear from you wall you must have good couradge mevy I shall Return & mevy I shant god onley knowes I cant tell I hope it will Be for me to Return once more to oxford But if we go to texes we have / got some hard ship to go through with I can tell you. I hope I shall git A letter from you to night when the mail coms in
 
August 29th I got A letter last night from you it was Dated july 5 & 6 stating you had not Receved A letter from me in some time I wrote as soon as I got Elroy likeness I got that Before I left port hudson while I was at donalson vill I wrote five or six letters to you while at camp Hubbard I wrote five or six more to you & while at Brashear City now I have wrote four or five more & sent frank nine or tenn papers I have sent Frank A Bout three Dolars in diferance letters sence I got my pay for him & you to atend the fair with I hope you will git them / all for I would like to have you Read them all if you dont git them thear must Be some mistake in the post offis some whear wall if tha are lost let them go mony & all when you git A letter from me write the perticklers A Bought them I wrote in one lette half A sheat of paper for you to hand to Mr Lewis so as to lett you have some mony to git you some close with or Eny thing Elce you wanted I have wrote from two to three letters A week to you & Frank for six weeks Back & it seems that you Dont git them all in this last mail that leaves New orleans the 6th of september you will git four letters & five papers from me
