My Dear Aunt
Not hearing from you for some time I concluded to write you a little note having a few leisure moments this P.M. I am still in the Army being now over 3 years since I first enlisted I am now in an Artillery Regt and we lay within one Mile of Petersburg Va occupying the first or advance line of Earthworks. My Regiment sustained a loss of 300 men on the 17th of June. I have understood that Uncle Oliver was in a N.Y. Battery. will you please inform me what the “no” is. it is so very warm down here that we can scarcely live. we cannot live with any kind of comfort I had a letter / from Home to day and the folks are all well. please Inform me whare George is now. we expect to have a fight daily. I think Grant will succeed in whipping them this time. My Regiment is attached to the 9th Corps commanded by Gen A. E. Burnside. can you tell me what Regt cousin Burnside is in I did know once but I have forgotten. Please kindly remember me to Aunty “M” and Uncle and all the good folks of Oswego please write soon, and oblige
