Dear mother I take this oppertuny to write you a few lines to let you know that I am well and hope you are the same We are having a good deal of rain and mud here now but it is not very cold I received some papers from you and a letter containing a pair of ear rings
 
Mother if it is conveanient for you to send me a box of things I Would like it very much you need not send any clothes for I have plenty of them but send me some writing paper and envelopes some cakes and anything comes handy send some lined envelops and the Best paper you can find Wont you give my love to Julia and Frank When you see them how is Addy and Phebe getting along give them my love and kiss the baby for his uncle Dick give my respects to Samuel and all the folks in general I dont know as there is any thing new to write the Rebels keep up their firing as usual but do no harm they kept up a firing all night last night so some of the boys said but I did not hear them but if I did I Was to sleepy to recolect any thing about it
 
            it has been so muddy lately that we have not drilled any for about 4 Weeks all we have had to do was to get wood to burn as we all have got a fire place and chimney to our tents
 
            you can Direct the box just the same as you do my letters
 
                        send three or four bunches of envelos and about the same of paper get the best kind and tell me the price of both seperate because some of the Boys Want some of it

            P S I have not heard from Webster for some time he was well then give my respects to enquireing friends if I have any sutch Julia says that Phebes baby is the most cunning little thing she ever see What is the Name of the pappoose i should like to know just for the fun of it L A Dickey
 
the Rebels have taken a notion to fire a little to day the shot from their guns are Whistleing through the air but do no harm they only make the heart leap and the eye flash as if it Was a Welcome sound I dont know the reason Why but it is that We are used to it good day write soon from Lyman A Dickey and Beaufort Md
