Dear Mother I take this opertunety to riting yow a few lines to let yow now that I am well at presant and hoping yow & all ove the rest ove the folks
 
Mother I resived youre leter on the 5 day ove Desember but Mother we are a going to leave here now pirty soone we exspect to leave here to marow morning to goe to Lisebth Town it is about 50 miles to the plase but Mother we think we all will get home in a bout 4 month from now but we think the war is about over now & we are a going to guard that plase / but there ise some Sesasionest there we are afraid they will burn the bridges up so we caint goe a cros where they are there aint now great many Rebls ther but mothe you told me not to rite to Folgers eney Moore but I wont but I would not rote to them eney atal onley they owed me some money & I wanted some stamps & they sent them to me & I wont rite eney moore to them Mother I get plenty to eate every day now we get lite bread & meat & rise & shuga & beanes & every thing we want but ther is people pedlen here every day ther is people from Louisvill that comes down in the hack Mother folgers I sup spose ses I sold that meat to bill Mabra / and soone as I get home I will give them wat they want soe bil Mabra had beter lookout for his self & all ove his friends for I will up set them if I ever get back home for I now very well that I didant sell that nigar that meat a tall but Muthe I am agoing to doe wat is rite
