                                                Jan 20 the 1862
 
                                    Dear Brother I reseaved youre kind letter & was glad to hear from yow but youre letter found me well at presant & hoping these few lines will find yow enjoing the same helth & all of the folks but Luristn I havent very much to write to yow but Lurestn the other dy there was old Genral Michel & capt Lomieses & 2 Luit tenants & 4 or five guards & the guards was taking prisners by the Rebles but Brothe there aint bin no fiting hear yet but I don’t think that there will be eney fiting or not but by the looks of things thare wont but oure men is a bilding Brest Works at Green River but oure men is a mile & a haff of Columbus Ky & oure men is a tring to get in be hind the Rebles at Bolen Green but all the giting will be done with artillry & calvery but Lurestin the Rail Road cars runs right past oure camp but I have bin Shewing some of old buds mules but I don’t like to shew them for they som times kick high as a house but the mules that I shod well I was down to the Genrals quarters the other day & there was 2 of the boys out of compney G shewing a mule & they kicked one of the Boys but that is a bad thing to shew Lurestin Bud sed he would write to yow some time be fore long & R Hase / is a going to write to yow & he wants yow to write to him tell Baleey Ellis to write to me & Lurestin tell me when Folgers is a going to move & whare ar they a going to tell Uncel Joseph to write to me & tell Isaac Pery to write or I wont write to them eney moore

                                                            Dear Mother I reseaved youre kind letter I was glad to hear from yow but youre letter found me well at presant & hoping these few lines will find yow engoing the same helth well mother I aint doing nothing now but standing guard once a week but mother there was one of oure boys died the other day he went out & washed him selfe all over & he took cold & died his name was John Kizer uncel Dan edgston knose him he lives at Cleavland & the compney throad in a dolar a peas & sent him home well mother when I got youre letter I was on guard then & I read the leter & I red hit to tomey & Robert Hase & that night I lost the letter & ben uncels too & couldent find hit well mother there aint nothing going on here yet but mother we hird that the Small Pox was in the 18 ohio redgt ment & we all got vax natid & my arm is as sore as hit can be hit is sweld up & as read as a beat & sore but thay haint bin no Small pox in oure redgt yet mother we aint got paid of yet but the pay Master is here now & we will get paid of as soon as the pay roal Somes but mother tomey is well at presant but mother ben Uncels found out that his mother wrote to Capton Wing & he cald his mother a dam Sunevill Bich & he kust his mothe to beat all & some of the boys was a going to slap him for hit but mother dont tell his mother a bout hit for she might write to Ben a bout hit & she wood tell him that I wrote home a bout hit but mother when you write to me tell me ho is a working in the shops that is all at presant            write soone to your
