                                                Camp Jefferson           Feb 2 the 1862
 
            Dear Uncel I take this opertunety to writing yow a few lines to let yow now that I am well at presant & hoping when those few lines comes to hand they may find yow & all of the folkes enjoying the sam helth well uncel I thot that I wood writte to yow once & tell yow about Ky well uncel this is a hard plase her hit is a raning her about twice a week but we haint had very much snow her but the roads is very bad & modey well uncel I was sorry to hear of liberns death & that Elley was not eney better but when Elley took sick at camp Jenkins I ws with him when they all feft & dan Jones went & got a wagon to holl / him to the hospitle but I was sorry that he didant get to come home with James but when he gets able to come home he can get a ferlow then but uncel I have stod hit first trate but I never wood of not inlisted if they hadand a promest me that job of BlackSmithing & after I got ther they woodant give hit to me but mebey I will get home some time but we aint got paid off yet & the curnel sed that we woodant get paid off untill the first of march but Uncel I have wrote home for a box of grub & I want yow to make me a pair of high topts botes & duble / sold & high heeles & well naild & I wont them to come up to my neas the tops & make them pirty high in the instep yow now the size of my fot No 9 & if you make them write off & put them in the box & when I get paid off I am a going to have my money exspressed home & then I will tell mother in my letter to pay yow the for the Boots well uncel tomey meser is well at presant & wilson Gillin is the same they send there best respecks to you & all of the folks well I heard that tailor was home & you tell him that I want him to write to me & I will ancer his letter /
 
but Uncel there aint bin eney fiting at Bolen Green yet but I think that there wont be eney there but I exspect that yow heard of the fite at mills Spring near columbus Ky oure me S cleand the rebles out ther & kild old Genral zolicoffier well that is all at presant write soone & direct youre letter to Louisvill Ky in care of capt James H Wing Co B 3rd ohio redgt OVUSA
