Dear Mother I take my pen in hand to let yow now that I am well at presant and I hope these few lines may find yow in the same helth well mother we left camp Jefferson a bout 3 week a goo and we went to Green River and staid there 2 days and then we started for Bowling Green and hit took us 2 days to go and hit was 43 miles and we exspect to have a hard fight thare and when we got there the rebbles was a leaving as fast as they could and they burnt up the Bridges and we could not get crost the river and oure / men throde shells in the town and burnt up a good eal of the houses and and when we got over the river we staid there a bout one week and while we was in Bowling Green I was a working in the Black Smith Shop I was a shewing mules and reparing wagons I had to through 2 of the mules down and shew them but capt Ferry sed that he woul give me a job of working at my trade but mother after we left Bowling Green we went to Nashvill and we run the rebles from there and we got / Bowling Green with out geting a man hert So we did get Nashvill the same way and the last day of last month the 4 ohio calvery redgt went out on a Skout and the Rebbles shot the capton and one Sergent and one privet but the Sergent did not die nor the privet but the capt died and the next day we went out on a Skout and we run the rebles 20 miles off but I dont think that we will not go eney feather South but mother tomey got a letter from Nels ling and sed that bill clark and James Begarham / and some feler from washington but was sorry to here that that they was taking prisners but give my best respecks to oll of my frends write soon and direct youre letter to Nashvill Tennessee in care of capt J H Wing Co B 3d ohio redgt ovm
