Dear Mother I take the plasure of ancering youre kind letter of the 16 it came to hand on the 27 of Aprile it found me well at the presant time & hoping when these few lines comes to hand they may find yow oll in the same helth well Mother yow sed in youre letter that yow havent got ancers for oll of the letters that yow sent here I have not got eney them yet but there was 2 of oure mails capturd by the rebles & there was one of oure mails burnt up 4 days a go oure boys burnt it so the Rebles could not get it & I exspect / that they got them letters & this is one of oure mails at pitchBurg landing they sent the mail there they thought that oure redgtment was there well mother we had a small fight at the tennessee River at a plase they coll Bridgeport we come up on them be fore they node it & we surounded there camp & we had the Batterys plast on the side of the river & when we come up on them they comenced to run & as they was a crosing the Bridge we throad shells at them & burnt the Bridge down & there was some of them got drounded & we took a bout 3 hunderd of them prisners & we fird in to there camp / & cild some of them & wounded some of them & the balance we took but there was a nuf of them to clean out us & whip us but they run like dogs & I will tell yow wot regtments was in the fight the 3d ohio & the 10 west concent volenteers regtments & there was some of lumases Battery there & oure Jenral Genral Mitchell was right be hind us but we left decator & burnt down the Bridge that went over the river & then we started for Huntsvill & when we got to Huntsvill we got orders to go to Bridgeport & it took us one day & a half to go but we did not halft to / we went on the Memphis & charleston Rail Road but mother we heard that bert Barnes was taking prisners as he was a coming to oure redgt & he was gone home on perrole of honer but mother I wont you to right out to McConels & ask mary if Shanon willson is there or not & I want to no if he is got well or not & yow right as soon as yow get this letter & when yow get a ancer then yow write to me but mother we aint a going no feather down South so Gen Mitchell sed [paper fold]he had orders to that plase at presant write soon & I will right a letter every week now but I aint a doing nothing a tool onely a standing guard once a week write soon
