Dear Mother I take the plaisure of ancering youre kind letter wich came to hand on the 23 of this month & it fond me well at the presant time & hoping when thos few lines comes to hand they may find yow in the same helth well mother oure Regt is provose guards in Huntsville & we get to go eney where we want to in town I was on guard at the colenel quarters in town & I got releaved this morning & I came out to camp but we havent / bin in ary fight sence we was at Bridgeport but the other day the tenth ohio & part of capt Louimes Batry & the 4 ohio calvry was orderd to go to out on a Skout & they had a figt with Scotts calvry at a town they cold Winchester it is a bout 20 miles north of Fayettevill there was a bout 15 hunder of them & oure felers cleand them out & cild some 30 & took 37 prisners & not a man kild on oure side but there was 4 taking prisners but mother I wasant left be hind a tall nor I havent bin in no / hospittel I havent bin sick no more than to days sence I bin in the Servis & I stand it first strate but yow sed that yow wanted to no some thing a bout tomey meser he is well & harty & stout he sed he would write as soon as he got time yow sed yow couldent see where Gen Mitchels devesion is by reading the papers his devesion is in huntsvill onley the regt ments & they are at aithons down by the tennessee River & yow wanted to no how far we was from home I am 9 hunderd & 10 miles so they say / tell Johney that I will wrigh to him soon yow wanted to no where bud levingston & Bob Hase bud is a driving the devesion ambence & bob Hase is in his compney but mother I think this war will soon be over
