June 21th 1862
Dear Mother I take the plaisure of ancering youre kind letter of the 16 it came to hand to day & it found me well at the presant & hoping when those few lines comes to hand they may find you enjoying the same Blesings well Mother I havent not got much news to wright onley we ockeypide chatanooga & the rebles come & drove oure men out of there & oure men fell back on this side of the River & burnt the town down with bum shells & it wont be long untill we take the plase again & if they will / Stay & fight us there we will do the best we can & I think that oure regtment will go up there but tailor Hall was in that fight at chattanooga & he is at Muffersbroro & I am a going to wright to him but Mother I wood like to be back there a little while & see the plase but I think that if McCleland whips the rebls out at richmond I think that the war will soon be over but he will haft to fight like forty but I sent pap a newspaper that was printed in Huntsvill & I sent my money to him & it came back on oure hands a gain & Govner tod sent an agent here to take / oure money home & he gave me to reseat & I sent one to pap so he could draw the money at the State & county treasure at St Clairsvill he cand draw 40 dollars ther in united States crip & I sent my litness to pap & I just came of ove picke when I got them taking & I looked prty hard then but yow sed that yow wanted bud to come & fix the clock & he sed he would if he got a good chance to come but I gess ben uncels didant send send no money home he lent 15 dollars to one of oure / oure Sargents & he bot a woch & give his note for it to be paid next pay day but they dont get me to by eney such thing for I dont want them So I want you to tell pap to wright to me & tell me oll the news but I am sory to hear a bout John Wheatleys leggs being cut of I am a going to wright to uncel Joseph pirty soon So no more at presant wright soon
