                                                                         Camp Taylor July 24th 1862
 
            Dear Mother I take the plasure of ancering youre kind and welcom letter of the 12 it came to hand on the 23 of July & it found me well at presant & hoping when those few lines comes to hand they may find yow & oll of the folks the Same well mother yow have bin complaing a bout me not writing often but I have wrote some 6 letter & I havent not got no ancers ancers from them yet but Mother I will tell yow the reason that I dont write it this the Rebles has bin between Huntsvill & Nashvill & I would not write becose I was a fraid the Rebls / would get my letters but the Rebls has went to Moffersbro & took 2 Regtments of ours & Burnt the town & they have capturd oll of of oure teems & mules & Bradley Mohanah is taking prisners he was a way with his teem a geting feed for them but they are a leting them go home on perrol but I am a going to send some flours home to yow in my next letter & the plase I am a going get them where we exspecketed to have a battell but we was orderd to drow to days rashons of grub to go out on a Skout to marow morning they say the Rebls is a crosing / over the river at whitsburg it is 10 miles from here and we exspeckt to have a battell to marow morning a bout one or too OClock & we are renforst with 22 thousand men & to Battersy & we have got some 5 cannons that shoots 7 miles they are 95 pounderds but Mother they are a fiting at Chatanooga now & the Rebls was on a niland that was surounded by watter & G McCook Sheld the Rebles out of the iland & he got on the othe Sid of the river & he tride to shell a bridge down that went over the River & if he could a Sheld the Bridg down / then he would of takin the Rebls prisners but mother tell Miss Shepard that abe is well & all of the Boys & abe sent her newspaper tell her a bout it well Mother tell pap to write to me & tell me a bout the shops & Spashely J B Williams & oll of the rest Mother Charles Etzler wants you to tell his wife that he is well & harty is a going out on a Skout to marow morning but I want you ask old Reas how he liket that paper I sent him but oll the Boys is well so no more at presant write soon
