Camp Taylor Ala
 
            Dear Mother I take the plaisure of ancering youre kind letter of the 21 it found me well at presant & hoping when those few lines comes to youre hand they may find yow enjoying the same Blesings well mother I am sory that I dident not write oftner but I am a going to write 3 times a week / & I am a going to write to uncel Joseph & to yow & pap but mother I havent not got much news to write to yow onley there are a fiting at chatanooga & Genl McCook sheld the rebls out of ther camp & thay retreated over the rive & G McCook run 60 thousand men over the rive & Ambushed for the Rebles & they come back & then they oll got down in ther old camps a gain then he sheld the bridge down & that cut ther retreat of but Mother he surounded them & took them oll prisners but Mother we are on half rashons now but we will get hole rashons / in a few days but we have Patanin drill evry morning we halft to get up a bout day light & go out & drill 2 hours & then we come in & eat oure breckfurst and we dont do nothing untill the next morning but me & tomey & will & John Price wos out on picket the other day & we got releaved yesterday morning & I got youre letter when we wos out on picket Leuit Patterson brought it to me well Mother oll the boys is well at presant but Bradley Mohanah was taking prisner while he wos out after corn for his horses but they will let them oll go on perole / but mother here is a little Sow that tomey gave to me to send to Frank & for him to keep it he got them out of of a packedge of paper So no more at presant write soon direct to
