Dear Mother I now take the pleasure of writing yow a few lines to let yow now that I am well and hearty and hoping when those few lines come to hand thay may find yow injoying the same Blesings well Mother I will tell yow wot tomey and Will is a doing thay are a guarding nigars to make them cut timber and Bild Brest works we are a fortyfing Huntsvill we are a fraid that oll of the Rebls will / will retreat from Richmond and come here but tom and Bill is a helping guard a bout 6 hundard but I will tell yow a bout wot Genl Rousseau told us he sed that McCleland had the Rebls compleatly surounded and there is a bout 25 thousand Rebls at chattanooga and as soon as McCleland taks Richmond he is a Genl McCook will make a brake on the Rebls at chattanooga and as shore as he dose / he will whipe them so bad thay dont know wot to do. but Mother I am a going to get a pass and go to Steaveson and se wot things looks like but Mother yow sed in youre letter that Ben dawson was dead I am sory to here it but yow wanted to no if I got finlays letter I never got it so no mor at presant
