Richmond August 9th 1863
Dear husband
I thought I would write a full leter this time but canot Charles an wife Mrs Trainer has been here to day have or do you know any thing about Simon Trainer she has not herd from him since the 24 of July write and let me know I read aletter from James Winans and said Wm Sela was with him they were going to Richmond they were prisnors Elsy was caried by here in a bed to day she is very low they have but litle hope of her her babe is sick with the sumer complaint I have the babe with me it looks like death Riley is not very well Martin was bit on his in the corner of his Right eye he was under the butnut trees the dog came to Churches bit his dog bit Holmes dog bit Martin bit greys dog bit Jessy winans dog that is the last we herd of him this was the 5 about noon / he is well as yet dont worry about him I will write soon again I dont see why you dont get my leters I have sent black thread and paper we have got through haying have not got the barns full it cost 60 dollars I had good hands the hay is in first rate order the oats are not ripe yet so we have a good garden good onions beats cabage cowcumbers peas beans potatoes lots of tomatoes good potatoes the turnips look well the aples are geting ripe the black beries are geting ripe the fall feed is coming on nice catle look well Robert shorts says you give him a 2 dolar bad bill agreed to give him one dollar if he would pass it so he alowed me twelve shilings on that money he owed you Aaron Shorts buried their youngest child to day Riley dont let anything trouble you keep up good courage may we will come out all right at last

this is monday the babe Elsies is no beter I did not sleep much last night I think I will take it down to Lauras to day Martin is well as yet I hope he will be the rest of the family is well so nomore at presant L A Carpenter
