Lovicy Adelia Carpenter (maiden name: Pratt) was born on October 23, 1826, in Pennsylvania to John Pratt and Lydia Luther. Her father died around 1831. She married Riley Carpenter, and they had at least eight children: James, born around 1849; Emma, born around 1851; Eva, born around 1853; Lydia, born around 1855; Martin, born around 1858; Lilly, born around 1859; Riley, born around 1862; and Harriet, born around 1868.
They settled in Richmond, Pennsylvania, and her husband worked as a farmer. By 1860, they owned $3,000 of real estate and $600 of personal property. A decade later, they owned $6,000 of real estate and $1,820 of personal property. Her husband died on July 21, 1910, after fracturing his femur in a fall. She applied for a widow’s pension in September 1910 and eventually secured one. She died of cerebral arteriosclerosis in Richmond on February 17, 1913.
