Va. June 7th 1862
 
                                                                                                                        Dear wife and famley I spend afew moments in riting to you to inform you that I am wall and hoping you are the same I hav retten two letters last weack and hav recev none sence weack a go last satter evening I lock for one last nite but got none I sent two letters last weack with 20 dollars in each of tham I will put 20.00 note in this. I think mebbey thay will go more saft if direct it to james then it wood to you tha wood not mistreus tha was monney in so quick /
 
Lovicy this monney is for you and not for James I think I shal get a letter to nite if we dont haftoe mov we are under marching orders now yester morning we got up at too o.clock P.M. pack up most of our things wated all day for a order to go jest at nite it lock like rain and the men put up thare tents again we are liable to go at enney ower thae was some firing yester I hav herd some too day the coarnal, majer, ajent are playing ball on sun day and our chaplain is sick it It rain here alittle last evening it is cold spell here now and dry I rode the Docters horse of to pastear this morning / and saw peaches nearley as big as a small hen ag corn big enuf to how some tell me thay saw corn ne hy all aod out doun on the river Thare is no fence in this cruntrey the farms lock as if tha ware forsakon
 
Tudsday morning I hav got no letter yet. I hav not herd from the letter that I sent two dollars in yet If you cant send tham sherts saft to me you need not send tham Good shirts here is 5.00 dollars a pare it is two much for me two pay It is verry cold and dry here now nereley cold enuf for frost I mite hav sent this letter seuner I wantted two get one frome home first / direct your letters as usual I make no ods about the camp ware it is it will come two the reaghment
 
I commenst nersing in the hospital yester I like it verry wall Thare is oneley eight in the hospital Thare is three of us in the hospital as nerses Peter Lick is one of tham He is going into the Invlid core at washington Our regment is on picket to day Long the river below fredreckburg I need not rite two you a bout the war for you can here more neuse then I can here we cant her enney thing two depend on the neuse papers 10 cents a pease and all ges work at that we hard no where we get the treuth I will send 20.00 note in this.
