Camp near Stafford. C.H
Dear Mother
I take this oppertunity of writing to you to let you know that I am still in good health. Lieut Matchett returned yesterday and by him I received Dave’s letter & the packages you sent me. I received a letter from Cousin Mary Jones on Sunday evening last but have been unable to answer as yet as we received marching orders and have kept busy in making preperations for it. We boxed up all our extra Clothing and sent it off to Washington we were to have started on our march yesterday but a heavy rain storm set in early in the morning and lasted all day. this will delay the movements for a few days Our Corps was reviewed on Friday of last week by the President & Gen Hooker.
We were paid on Sunday for four months up to the first of March. enclosed you will find part of the money. I would have sent more this time but for the fact of our moving shortly and not knowing / where we may be placed. we think it best to always have some money about us
Tell Dave I received his letter with his photograph & mine and if we do not start very soon I will write to him Henry’s photograph was received. I will write to him shortly
When you write to Cousin Mary please let her know why I have not answered her letter and tell her that I will answer as soon as possible
I have nothing more to write at present
Give my love to Sisters & Brothers & all inquiring Friends
& receive a great deal yourself from
Your affectionate Son
Daniel
