Dear Mother
I take this oppertunity to write a few lines to you to let you know that I am still enjoying good health and so far have passed safely through the different battles in which our Regiment has been engaged. Our Corp is at present encamped about five miles from the Kenesaw Mountains. Our Division had a pretty hot fight on the afternoon of the 22nd. Our Regiment did not lose many as we had Breastworks thrown up to protect ourselves. the Rebels charged on us but were repulsed with a very heavy loss. We are encamped on the ground where the Battle was fought and resting ourselves for a few days before moving on / While here we have had two Mails and every time I ask the answer comes “nothing for you”. in fact since I left Decherd nearly two months ago I have received but one letter and a few papers from home. I have written every time I got the chance which was once every ten days until a month ago I found I never got one in return. so I made up my mind not to write until I received answer and you can tell Dave & Henry that if they want me to write to them they must write to me for I do not believe in writing all the time without receiving any in return.
Our Orderly Sergeant Sigley & Billy McMonagle were wounded the other day. They were both wounded in the Leg. Billy was wounded in the Fleshy part of the leg and though it is not serious he will have to go to Hospital for a while with it
