George F. Prichard to John Prichard and Maria Prichard, 20 May 1863
Baton Rouge La.
May 20th 1863
Dear Father and Mother
As you perceive by the heading of this letter—(or note, it will be) we have removed. We left N.O. last night, arrived here this afternoon. Will proceed up the river to-morrow morning to participate in a fight which is expected to come off in the vicinity of Port Hudson. I thought it best to write and let you know as something might happen to us. I am laying on the bare ground as I write—in haste—and with much love— Love from John
Your affectionate Son
George.
