                                                                                                                        Dear Wife
I receved your kind and truly welcome letter which gave me grate plesure to hear that you and the child was well which this leves me at present I receved the pocket book and the childs hair and your one and I was verry happy to have it you must keep your hart up and dont mind what that fellow says but when you meet him pass him by and dont pretend to se him but by all accounts it wont be long till we get home again I was glad to hear that / you receved my liteness you mentioned that my liteness wasent the way you wanted it I hadent time to get it on paper for I had to go 4 miles and my pass wodent allow me to stop long enough to get it on paper you wanted to now wether I lost the ring the ring was in the pocket book and I lost it to which I was verry sorry for I receved them cards that you sent me and thay was verry pleasing to me
 
you nede not think that I wonder at you for riting so often for I woud do the same if i had the chance but we dont get much time for thay ant nothing gives me more plesure than to here from you and my Da[?] I hope thay wasent enny harm done by [?] braking the bed when you hear from your Mother let me now /
 
here is a little present that i send you but I hope before long I can send you a good present for before long i think you will have my self home for a present
 
When you rite a gain you must not put so much directions on your letter here is the directions
