            Dear Brother Joe
                                                I should have written sooner but have neglected it for which I ask your forgiveness. I received a letter from Kate to day she is well and all the folks at old Frankfort I am flourishing slowly came of Picket this morning I like picket duty verry well at least in good weather. I have not saw the elephant yet but have saw where he sh_t and expect to see him before long I understand that your regt lays near brandy station I was there / when we were comeing to our regt I would like to see you verry much but I suppose I cannot at present for I think that we will move before long in a few days if not sooner. I like soldiering first rate I always try to be contented I find that it is the best way under all circumstances well I have no news to tell you I beleive I will not write any more untill I hear from you and then I will write more. write soon as you get this note From Tom Campbell
