            Dear sister Kate
                                    I received your kind and long wished for letter about 2 hours ago and will now endeavor to answer it I got a letter from Brother Sam on friday he has got back to his regt I was just answering it I will write to Joe as soon as I get time perhaps this evening if I get time I just came of of picket this morning I like picket duty verry well at least in good weather it is not so nice in bad weather I was out some bad nights the weather is verry nice here now the days are verry warm and the nights cool the nights are cold here all summer and the days why warm will be no name for them after while /
 
I am in good health good spirits also take every thing as it comes good humoredly I have not seen the elephant yet but expect to be fore long. I think we will move in a few days. there was an issue of 3 days hard tack to day and 2 of soft bread I thing that we will move in 2 or 3 days or maby sooner and maby longer. but I think not longer. well Kate I have nothing paticular to write I can always tell what I have to say in few words as possible. so I guess I will stop for this time and now asking you to write soon and often and long letters I will close for this time. From your Brother Tom giv give my love to ella cynthia and ed and charley and mother and all enquireing friends and retain a good portion for your self. Tom
