Dear Parents once more I take my pen in hand to write or scratch a few lines to you as we have got the privilage of laying still one day after so long a march we arived here last evening and are laying waiting for rations we have not even to a piece of hard tacks to eat. the Boys is all tired and worn out & some of them starved out for that mater so the things goes a Soldiering. well the Brigade mail has come so I wont close this till it comes in. well now I will state a word about my health well it has bin rather poor since the Battle of GettiesBurg. I rode in the ambulances one day & had a slow pass one day the rest of the time I have capt up and marched in the ranks all of the time ask Em how tired we wer the time we marched from Washington to Camp Callifornia. some 12 or 13 miles ask how he thinks we stand it now march from 20 to 25 & 30 miles a day & one day we marched 33 miles from this side of of Fredricks City to or one mile beyond Union Town. that we done in about 14 hours and it was a hot day at that so you see wheathr we ar Tigers or mules. /
we expect to lay here a few days in Camp to rest up and get rations and So forth well the maile has come & no letter from you but on from Em & on from Frances. must stop see what is in them. well nothing about home they are all well So presume you are well I am so near tired out & hand trembles so I cannot make a deacent mark. More is all sound also Steph & Jim Sanders. Bill Wimple is taken Prisenor I am the onley one except More that came from up north on the upper road. we hope to be filled up with Conscrips soon then our Duty will be a little more reasonabable. well you will have to take up with this. we have had no maile since we left Torney Town M.D. I know you have written 2 or 3 letters but they do not come. you must try and content your Selvs with those poor letters for if you knew a soldiers condition you could not ask for any better I have a few lines wrote & cealed ready to send a long time & had no chance till now so will send it now. I would like a Stamp for they are worth from 10 to 15 Cts a piece here & cant get them at that. well I am on just as good spirits as Ever & that aint verry good at the best. I shall have to Close by sending my love & best respects to Grandfather & Folks as well as you all Eph. Brown to His Dear Parents write soon Good Bye
