Dear Brother it
is with pleashure that I take my seat this morning to drop you a few lines to let you know how I am a getting a long at this time this leaves me in tolerable good health and I hope when this comes to hand it will find you / enjoying the same—
Jacob I sent you a Solder memmoreal it was sent to Washington in care of Daniel Robbins. if you will go to Economy and ask Robbins a bout it you can get it if it has come. All of the Economy and Sugar grove Boys bought a lot of them at Indianooplas and had them expressed to Daniel Robbins Economy it is a large picture in a frame with the names of all the Boys of Co D 69th Regiment /
We are a going down the Mississippi River a gan to try Vicksburg agan the talk here is that we will go in a bout 20 miles of Vicksburg and go in camp and wait for reinforcements. Grants armey is at Memphis a wating for the Boats to fech them down. We have a large fleet there is a bout 65 or 70 Boats in our fleet and there is said to be a fleet of 30 Bots up White River that will be down in a few Days. /
We think we will take Vicks Burg this time but it may take 2 or 3 weaks first we will have to shell them out of their fortification with our big guns be fore the infentry can do eny good. Lewis Smith is well at this time I will have to bring my letter to a close for this time Write soon and give me all the News I remain as ever your loving Brother
