                                                Dear Brother & sister
                                                                                                            I received yours of June the 21th and was glad to hear frome home as I did not get a letter for over a month. but I hope I will get more mail before long for the river is open again so that boats can run regular my health is good and I hope by the time these few lines reaches you they will finde you all enjoying the same blessing of kind Providence
 
I was sorry to learn that Mary was sick but I hope she is well by this time. there a great ell of sickness here amongts the troops but our Regt has very little sick now but some new regt that come doun the river 5 or six dies a day
 
it very warm now to hot to do any thing now but lay around camp you must excuse me for writing more as they are calling for the mail
 
so no more but write soon
