Albert Forder to William Forder et al., 24 February 1861
February the 24th 1861
 
My Dear Brother and Sister and Friends It is with pleasure that I take my pen in hand to let you no that we are all well at presant and Hoping when thes fiew lines come to hand they will find you all well and doing well grany and grandpap Robbe is still geting weaker it is thought that they cannot last long if there is not a change soon I must tell you now how I got Home I walked about over Town till a bout sundown then I went down to the depot got my ticket to green Castle and wated till the train came the train was due at seven and did not get ther untill about 10. O.Clock I got on the train and went to green Castle when they got there it was half after One Oclock I went to the tavern and stade all knight I got up in the morning about half sick I did not feel like eating breakfast I pade for my bed which was a quarter then I walked about over the town some I got me something to eat at the Bakery I felt to bad to run about much so I went to the Depot and stade till the cars came at eleven Oclock they was due so I got my ticket and was soon on my way to salem. Nothing unusal ocurred on the way I got to Salem about sundown and I walked out Home I got out home about half after seven Oclock I surprised them a right smart the children was all pleased with the [?] because you sent it Old Georgey is pleased with his brush you sent him I did not go to school a friday I heped them hall wood Bob has quit going to school for a bout to weeks and several of the large scholars has quit going to School and gon to work Yesterday was Meeting Day but there was none it was raining so that the preecher did not come so we did not have any Meeting Last night I went and saw them muster and musterd with them so if you here of me going to war you must not be alarmed there was a bout fifty a mustering in Salem last friday Our Captains name is P [?] Green Lieutenant Pickler I was at meeting to day and had a very good sermon it is so dark that / that I cannot see the Line I thought that I would quit but I must tell you about the party at Old peeters they had a Chiping and quilting and when they had got through Chiping at night and was a bout to go to cuting up or they had commensed playing when Adam came down and sent Will off after the Doctor and Envited the Old Lady over to a frolic at His House I guess Adam had his fill a dansing
 
Now I will have to come to a close for there is meeting to night and it is time I was started to meeting there is no fresh nuse on the Creek I beleave only Kate Green and Mr Zink is Married and gon Home there are wating on me to go to meeting so no more at presant only answer this soon Good By
