Julia Ann Hubbard was born on August 6, 1841, in Indiana to George Hubbard and Charlotte Stewart. Her father was a blacksmith who owned $400 of real estate in 1850. She grew up and attended school in Vernon, Indiana, and she married James McMullen on October 3, 1861. They had at least three children: Ella, born around 1866; Lillie, born around 1870; and John, born around 1873. They lived in Darlington, Indiana, and her husband worked as a butcher. They moved to Frankfort, Indiana, in the late 1800s, and her husband earned a living as a school janitor there. James died around 1910. She applied for a widow’s pension in January 1910 and eventually secured one. She eventually moved into her son John’s household in Frankfort. She died there of bronchial pneumonia on December 15, 1936.
