Sarah E. Hubbard (maiden name: Barnett) was born around 1832 in Indiana to William and Sarah Barnett. Her father was a farmer who owned $800 of real estate in 1850. Sarah grew up in Vernon, Indiana. She married James F. Hubbard on October 25, 1853, and they had at least four children: Martha, born around 1854; Charles, born around 1856; Laura, born around 1858; and Cora, born around 1867. They settled in Monroe, Indiana, and her husband worked as a blacksmith. They moved to Brown, Indiana, after the Civil War, and by 1870, they owned $800 of real estate and $500 of personal property. She died of “paralysis of [the] heart” in Campbellsburg, Indiana, on September 10, 1907.
