August the 4th 1861
My Dear Brother and Sister and friends it is with pleasure that I take my pen in hand to answer your very Cind Leter we was glad to here that you was all well and doing well and I hope when these fiew lines Come to hand they will Still find you all well as thanks to the good Being it leaves us all well and doing well at preasent I went to Fort hill to meeting this morning they are holding a big Meeting their Mr Lem Martin Spoke this morning he spok preeched a very good sermon they will hold meeting three or four Days well Will I am Still at work with the Boys we are at work at Campbellsburg now we have got Dr Colliers house Enclosed and the floors laid sash mad and making the doors it wont take long to finish that house we have a house to repair for Louis Casper in the burg we hant got much work in hand now I am afraid hi Zink will give / out building that was a good job a four hundred and 25 Dollar Job bandys was to saw the lumber for him but they fooled him and went to thrashing wheet with their Steem Engin so they will not Saw the logs for 3 or 4 weeks yet I guess we will get work Enough to do at least I hope so for I am indet for 2 months and a half work yet I have Bought two mewls for $70.00 I am to pay twenty dollars in a month from now when I take them a way and the rest at Christmas if i cant pay all at Christmas to pay it when i can they are both mare mewls and mach Exact I get them of Charley Masterson it wont take me long to pay for them and it wont be long till i have a good team then i will come out and help you buy that farm I would like to see you all the best in the world but I cant just now when I do come I am coming to stay a while Pap and Mr George Hubbard will be out their after pap gets his wheat sown if nothing hapens /
Mr Hubbards folks is all well Jim Hubbards is all well Solls was all well when we herd from them last Well Will I went and stoped your paper as according to Orders there was only twenty Cts to pay Well Squar wheet is all of 40 Cts a bushell down here there wont be much to sell at that Price Prety tite times down here the war fevor is prety high a bout here I gues you herd a bout Will and P. C. Cauble geting hurt the Scaffold broke and let them fall it broke Coms left arm the small bone and at the Elbow and put the other bone out of place at the Elbow he cant use it yet he paints with one hand it hurt wills nee in the fall and it ant right well yet I was on the next Scaffold when the boys fell I was scard a right smart they fell a bout 12 feet it was a Sleeper that broke it was 2 1/2 inches thick and 8 inches wide it was very brash brasher than they thought it was Well Will it is / geting late I am going to the burg in the morning You must not think we are all mad down here I wrote two leters to you one was a big leter and the other was not much you dident ought to fall out with me for not wrighting to you for i havent had one from you untill this one for a Coons Edge Wm Cauble says he ant a going to wright to you untill you wright to him Well I have told you all I can think of now well Sarah and Julia you must not think I have Slited you for when I wright to one I wright to all Sarah feed them turkies I will want one when I come out there well Sarah I cant tell Secrets but Speek a good word for me I must come to a close Wright as soon as you all can I like to forgot to tell you a bout the big corn our litle patches at hom is looly[?] there is some Rostenears in there now Corn in the botoms looks wel but we nee rain very bad Well I must Close So fare well Your Ever affectionate Brother untill death A.
