Albert W. Booher was born on February 4, 1846, in Indiana to William Martin Booher and Lydia Cox. His father was a farmer who owned $9,000 of real estate and $3,500 of personal property by 1860. His mother died around 1854. He grew up and attended school in Franklin, Indiana. Booher enlisted in the Union army on January 30, 1864, and he mustered in as a private in Company B of the 120th Indiana Infantry later that day. The regiment took part in the Atlanta campaign and the Carolinas campaign. He mustered out on January 8, 1866.
Booher returned to Franklin after the war, and he married Mariam Cox on June 28, 1866. They had at least four children: Montford, born around 1869; Elizabeth, born around 1875; Louis, born around 1887; and Fern, born around 1887. They lived in Franklin, and Booher worked as a farmer. By 1870, he owned $4,000 of real estate and $100 of personal property.
They moved to Union, Indiana, in the late 1800s. By 1900, he was working as a travelling salesman. By 1910, they were living with their daughter Fern in Crawfordsville, Indiana. His wife died on March 12, 1920, and he married Cordelia Gregg on December 26, 1922. By 1930, they were living in Darlington, Indiana. He died in Darlington on November 11, 1939.
