Charlotte Hubbard (maiden name: Stewart) was born around 1805 in Virginia. She moved to Washington County, Indiana, by the 1820s, and she married George Hubbard there on January 2, 1827. They had at least seven children: James, born around 1833; Sarah, born around 1836; Minerva, born around 1839; Julia, born around 1841; Emily, born around 1843; Peter Taylor, born around 1848; and Winfield Scott, born around 1851. They settled in Vernon, Indiana, and her husband worked as a blacksmith. By 1850, they owned $400 of real estate. They moved to Darlington, Indiana, around 1864, and by 1870, they owned $1,000 of real estate and $500 of personal property. She died in 1880.
