this is monday morning the
Dear father and mother I once more seat my self for the perpes of riting you a few lines to let you know that we are all well at the present hoping when thees few lines comes to hand they may find you all well and agetting along well I have been looking for a letter from you fore some time but hant got any yet so I thought I would rite you a few lines to let you know that we all rite yet well anugh of that well father and mother the report is that william your son is dead I cant whether it is so or not / but I can tell you that three of the childern was sent on to me to take care of them they come almost naked and half starved that old bitch started them off with nothing you know that I said she was no count and I sill say so she is as mien as the devil al though she pretends to be agood christian I dont know what she will do with the childern for I am not abel to keep them I expect to go to morrow to see martin hubbard to see if he will take one I expect to go to town in the morning and go on the train to see him /
well father I suppose that Peter martin is kild and tom martin has one of his legs shot off it is awful to think of the may fair fellows that have passed away well I can tell you that we have been trying to make up money to clere our township from a draft but I dont have any idea that it will do much good I sent 25 dol because if it will ceare us from a draft I think it is all rite well I must tell you that we have had a verry disageeable winter so far it snows and rains all the time it hasent been so powerful cold /
well pap and mother I can tell you that I am agoing to leeve thees parts if the draft dont take me I expect to go to the Illinois in the spring if nothing hapens so you kneed not look for us out their I have an uncle that was in to see us and he says he can get me a home as long as I want it and plenty of wood he lives in old Aberhams county 23 miles from springfield I know I can do better their than I can here well I will quit for this time hoping to here from you soon rite soon and often to george
