is with plesure that I take my pen in hand to inform you that I am well and harty and I hope that those few lines ma find you all well and harty
 
Well Julia I received your verrey kind and welcomed letter to day of the 5th of this munth and was glad to hear from you and to hear that you was all well and doing well
 
Well Julia if I was at home to day I could tell you more in five minnits than I can rite in a half of a day but I cant be there and if you hear that I am well and harty I recken that / you will be satisfied but I will tri to tell you something elce be fore I quit if I can but if I dont you nedent be disapointed
 
You sed in your letter that you hopet that I would not hav to go in to a nuther battle be fore my time was out you nedent be unesey a bout that for we will not hav enney more fiting to do I will tell you something a bout our Battery while we was gon to nashville we was asind to this post the same night that we got back from nashville ther was a order cum for fifty of us to report to the post quartermaster for duty to take care of horses then in a few days ther was / a nuther order for forty eight men to be turnd over to the 5th Ind Battery so that leaves but twenty two men in the battery Will and I is on the hors detale we will stay her till our time is out if nuthing hapens more than I no of now and I dont care how soon our time roles a round for I would give enney thing to see you to day and hav a long talk with you and all the rest of the fookls it is better than ninteen munths sence I left you and that has bin the longest ninteen munths to me that I ever past in my life and if I am spard to git back to you I will never leav you a gain while / I live but thank god the time begins to look short it will soon role a round then we can talk together in the place of riting Well Julia we hav not bin pade of yet but we will be pade of in a bout two weaks So you nedent send me enney munney well I must cum to a close for this time pray for me that I ma live faithful til deth yours truley from
