Mr McMullin
sir writing to an unknown friend I hardly know what to write first, or what would be interesting to you. I shall first speak in regard to my health which has been very delicate for some time I took the tyfoid fever the 4th of Dec and I am just now getting able to walk about my health is improveing / very fast considering the severe attact I come very near crossing the river of Jordan but I think I will soon be able to undergo the hardships of a soldier enough on this subject. the union boys have gained another great victory in Ky they whiped out Zolicoffer army and killed Zolicoffer and several Brigadier generals and colonels with a large loss of privates of our loss was 35 killed and over 100 wounded but that is nothing in comparison to the rebel loss. I must close for the present but yours respectfully
