Jane Richardson was born on February 13, 1846, in Washington County, Indiana, to Richard and Catherine Richardson. Her father was a farmer. She grew up and attended school in Washington, Indiana. Her father died around 1858, and her mother managed the farm after his death. By 1860, the family owned $2,000 of real estate and $200 of personal property.
Jane married Michael Rippey on October 22, 1862, and they had at least five children: Nora, born around 1864; Mary, born around 1866; James, born around 1868; Nancy, born around 1870; and Viola, born around 1874. They remained in Washington, Indiana, and her husband worked as a farmer. By 1870, they owned $200 of personal property. Her husband died sometime in the 1880s, and she married William Montgomery around 1890. By 1900, they were living in Posey, Indiana. Jane died of “paralysis” and “heart failure” in Posey on January 21, 1905.
