Dear Brother
Your letter came duly to hand and with great pleasure contence noticed. You said you was sorry that I returned to war again; Well Renny I did not intend to return again but you see I could not obtain my discharge and they owed me Seven months pay which I could not get without being here to sign the pay roll &c and then an other thing they could take me for a deserter if they choose so to do, and the probability is now we will not see an other engagement; Two weeks agow we were within a rifle shot of the Rebel on the opposite side of the Potomac now we are with Sixty miles / at least from them and I think by the month of June the 2nd N.H. Regt. will be discharged any how I think we will get out of it soon if we live and have good luck a good many more down here think the wars are very short; You aught to be down here and see some of the Nigs Some of them are the most inferior looking devils you ever saw. My health at presant is verry good I have a cosey tent a fireplace in one corner and it puts me in mind of the old Bar room. Remember me to all the Bros Father & Mother also to Roxa
