Layfayette, La Febry 12 1863
Dear Julia,
I left Washington (La) last evening at
Sunset and arrived here this morning to Breakfast
will go to Camp Pratt tonight. The stage from
Alexandria is just in, and Capt. Goff came on it
affording a good chance to send a letter, though I
have only a few minutes to write.
We have very Conflicting reports of the landing
of the enemy ‘s forces on the Teche. I do not think
a battle imminent within a weerk, though it is
probable we will have some fighting before we leave
We marched all night and will march
again tonight which is very fatigueing
I wrote to you by mail on Ysterday from Washington
but fear you may not get my letter. We have no news
of any importance. Lavaca Boys are all well and in
good spirits. I have not heard from Frank since I
last wrote to you. presume you have heard from Alf
at Houston. I have nothing from you later than the 15th
your letter. Am glad that you and our sdear children are
enjoying yourselves so nicely. wish I could be with
You. but can not find it in my heart to envy
Mr Goff the happiness in store for him. I am
really delighted that he has an opportunity of going
home after so long in absence and so many perils.
He looks much better than expected but is much greyer
he comes back for the purpose of recruiting and
will have some time to stay at home.
He thinks the war will close sometime during
Summer. I certainly hope so, that we may all
be permitted to return to our hoimes and to those we
love dearer than life it’s self.
I will will try to write to you again from Near Iberia
and if we get through our fight safely, many more times.
Give my love to Mother, Mary , and Willie to Bro Alex
and family Sister Ada family Aunt Janet and all
to Mr & Mrs Burr & Your Pa when you see
him. Kindest regards to your Uncle Jeff & family
Believe me darling one with kisses to you
and babies Yours ever
Travis
