                                    Southampton Co. Va
                                               April 2nd 1863

          My dear sister
Your letter of the 25th of
March came to hand yesterday.  it gave
me much pleasure to hear from youall
again and especially to learn that all was
well for it maybe well said that good
that great health is a blessing for without it
we can enjoy nothing at all.  thanks be
to Almighty God, that my health has improved
perhaps you will not be surprised to know that
we have move again.  we left our old camp
near Perersburg last thursday.  arrived here
on monday after quite a muddy tramp.we lay
by and rested on sunday.  we are now in camp
42 miles below Petersburg and within two
miles of Black Water River.  we have quite a
good camp, but I think we will move again
very soon as we are some distance from
the enemy lines.  my address will be Ivor
Station now instead of Petersburg  I can
learn nothing in reference to enemy that
is reliable.  I heard  since my arrival here
that brother Tom started to see me last
Saturday but was too late by two days to
find me near Petersburg.  I am quite sorry
that I could not see him but it could not
be        I made use of this morning to wash
my clothes for the first time since I saw
you.  I made out to get them quite clean
but don,t know when I shall have another
such chance.  I would like to go this even
ing and look for some peas or beams to
boil with my pork but don’t know
that I shall have a chance of doing so.
Brother Tom sent me word that he would
be compeled to break up housekeeping but
I was very certain of that before I left there
I asked William to carry what  few things
that was left of mine up to youall.  I guess
he will do so if nothing happens to prevent
Some of my pillow cases have been destroyed
and perhaps some of the sheets but I took it
all in good part as I could not say anything
that was likely to do any good.  give my love
to Mother and Sister and receive a portion to
yourself.  give my best respects to Joseph
and all inquiring friends.  write soon
May God bless and protect youall is
the prayer of your devoted brother
