My dear sister
Yours of
the sixth came saftly
to hand last Saturday
Brother Tom has gone
to sowing oats and i
cannot tell you yet
when i can come up
for you. The Militia
is ordered to Norfolk
next Wednesday. Broth
er Tom had to go
to the Court house
to be exempted again
they will not force
mee to go but i was
speaking of volunteer
ing i joined a comp
any that was mak
ing up in this nea
borhood but as they
did not get it up
i will not go i reckon
you have heard of the
great Navel Battle in
the Hamilton Roads. i
have no news of imp
ortance to write you
You must write soon
give my love to Mo
ther and sisters and
receive a portion for
yourself i remain
your devoted brother
