My Dear Parents
Uncle Martin is going home to morrow. I will write a few lines. I cannot send the bottles by him. I have just seen him but he cant take any thing. I have got a fine horn for Richard to hunt with but I cant / send it to him. have you got salt enough, if not you must come to see me and get some. are you making any think. I am glad you are going to the plantation to live. I will send 40.00 fourty dollars by Uncle Martin to you. we do not get enough rations, so I do not spend less than my wages / per month. did you get my Coat that I sent by Dempsey, also the letter and powder by Jimmie Tinsly there is no prospect of me geting a furlough. the wattermellons you sent me was the best I have seen I would not take 20.00 dollars for the box. I wish I could get one every week. the yankees has been quiet / two days. the men are still deserting some of the Yankee boats are leaving but I do not know where they are going

give my love to all enquiring friends.
