In the Trenches around
Petersburg

Dear Parents:
At last I have found time to write to my dear Parents. we arrived at Petersburg last night (Sunday) after two days hard marching. we all fully expected to stay all winter, but unfortunately did not. I am still very soar from the march Walter was left at Stony creek sick, also Jno Owen, Lt. L. C. Miller and Brothers were left at Notaway on guard. I was invited to a Wedding next Tuesday night. that is tomorrow night, but did not get to go on account of the move. Miss Mollie Jackson is to be married to Mr Rose on the 18th inst. Miss Mollie invited Walter and myself what a nice time we would have had but alas I am in the trenches around Petersburg. but cousin Nannie will send me some the cake if she can possibly do so. sends her love to you all. I have no news to write. I saw Wilford last night I am quite well. I will write more soon.

                                                                                    Write soon,
                                                                                                Your devoted Son
                                                                                                            Jno Daniel
