Capt J W M Clure
Dear Sir
I have written to Genl Banks in the name of Dr Duncan for protection but I have not received any answer from him. The 8th N. Hampshire has taken the last 9 Mules and 7 oxteams that we had left to haul wood & do plantation work and left us nothing to work. They say they will return them—but when—They have taken all our forage at one place and now taking it from the other place—and taken all our Negro men to drive teams. I appeal to you once more to you to get us protection. If the Army is to take all our teams, carts, corn & Hay how are we to feed 300 people, and make a support for them if there is no protection is given us. If this is allowed I will have to abandon the places & the Negroes will have to look out a living some other place. I would like to have & order for what few Mules we have & the ox teams to be returned and to have our Corn & Hay
Yours Respectfully
A. M. Williams
